Bicycle Ride up Wheeler Creek Canyon

This is a ride I did by myself. Everyone else had family stuff going on with the holiday weekend. I decided to try something I had wanted to do for some time now, ride up to Snowbasin on the old road. But I didn't want to ride up over the mountain from Eden to Art Nord, a very hard climb, then dropping back down. So I decided to take my mountain bike and ride up though Wheeler Creek Canyon. It would be the shortest way up to Snowbasin, and the least steep, or so I thought. I had snowshoed both ways in the canyon and it never seemed to be much of a climb. Ha... was I ever in for a surprise. Wheeler canyon is quite steep, and very rough. It was the roughest ride I have ever been on. Someone my age should never attempt doing a ride like that, (80 years old) but I did. I kept thinking I should turn back and give up, but giving up isn't in my nature. I had to rest often, but kept pushing on. Finally I reached Art Nord and had a paved highway the rest of the way up to Snowbasin. It was nice too, because the old road is closed to auto traffic above Art Nord. The ride wasn't far, distance wise, only 6 miles one way, but it was the hardest 6 miles of my life. What a wild ride. I will never try that one again. My ride total was 12 miles.

Map where I rode.. The road though Wheeler Canyon is the first road ever made, going up to Snowbasin.
It was built by Arthur G. Nord. They later closed it to traffic because of rockslides in the canyon.
The valley Wheeler Creek runs through has been named Art Nord.
