HIKING TO LAKE BLANCHE June 2004 - 24 photos
On Saturday the 26th of June, 2004, we hiked to Lake Blanche in the Twin Peaks Wilderness area of Big Cottonwood canyon above Salt Lake City. We hiked up Mill B Southfork canyon to Lake Blanche and two more lakes off to the west, Lake Florence and Lake Lillian. The lakes are located at 8,920 feet and the climb was about 2,750. Standing above the lakes are Sundial Peak 10,320, Dromedary Peak 11,107 and Sunrise Peak 11,275. In the background of Sundial Peak are Mount Superior and Monte Christo, at about 11,132. The Twin Peaks can't be seen from the lake, but are the highest in the area at 11,330 feet. The information I could find on this hike is quite varied. Some say it is 3 miles one way and others 3.7. It seemed a lot longer. One source I found said that it was an easy hike while others said intermediate to very strenuous. I would say strenuous at least, as It took us four hours going up and about two hours coming back down. What I can say for sure, the views make it worth the trouble.
