HIKING INDIAN TRAIL October 2007 - 36 photos
On the 26th of October, 2007, my neighbor Don Gneiding and a new hiking member Marlene Hadley went with me for a walk over the Indian Trail in Ogden Canyon. We left a car at the 22nd street trail head then drove up the canyon to the Smokey Bear sign at the old Lime Kilns where the other trail head is located. From there the trail runs south up the bottom of Coldwater Canyon, then crosses a bridge and climbs up over the canyon rim. After that it runs west down the south side of Ogden canyon about a 1,000 feet high.
I hadn't been up this trail for quite some time and as we were following the trail we came to a fork where one trail went down into the bottom of the canyon and the other switched back to the northwest going up. I decided that we should go up and we found ourselves at a large flat clearing which was surrounded by many camp sites. There was a faint trail going on up the mountain side, but it soon disappeared. We debated going back or trekking through the brush over into Coldwater Canyon. We decided that it would be shorter to rough it for a ways, and we soon found the trail again.

It was a little cool when we started out, but soon warmed up and became a delightful day, and with the fall colors showing here and there it was a colorful walk as well. I think I can say that we all enjoyed this hike immensely. The trail sign stated that the hike is about 4 miles long and climbs 1,000 feet. I took my GPS mapper and according to it, we walked 5.02 miles, but some of that was probably our side trip, though it wasn't any mile. Also the GPS showed that we climbed 1,345 feet.
