A VISIT TO HOGLE ZOO
September 2008 - 54 photos

In September of 2008, I went down to the Hogle Zoo to get more photos. Because the lens stabilization was accidently turned off on my big telephoto lens, I didn't get as many good photos as I had hoped for, and may of the photos were blurry. The other reason was most animals were not out due to the heat. Didn't get any good pictures of the Lions and Tigers, and didn't see the Great Apes. Fortunately, some of the photos still came out pretty good. Even with the loss caused by many blurred photos, I still got enough good ones to show here, since I took over 300.

I also had a problem getting pictures of the bird show, partly because of distance and the handlers were moving around a lot, moving their arms to make the birds flap their wings and show off. They were not posing for photographers. I was about 85 feet away and shooting fast hoping to get some good shots. I wasn't in the showgrounds, but outside the arena shooting over the fence. We got there after the show had started and they wouldn't let us in. As I was using my 100-400 lens for this, I felt that I was lucky to get any good shots at all, with the IS turned off. Many of these shots were blurry also. Only two with the owl turned out good.
