WILLARD BASIN TO BEN LOMOND September 1998 - 16 photos
Located east of Willard Utah and north of Ogden, this is a fairly easy hike, about three and a half miles one way with an easy climb of about 1,000 feet. Ben Lomond is 9,712 above Sea Level.
Driving to Mantua Utah, east of Brigham City, you can take a dirt road up to Willard Basin just below Willard Peak. (A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended). From the basin the trail heads southward uphill through the pines, curving somewhat to the west and then to the east passing a small lake, then curves around back to the west as it rises up to the ridge line where you can see Willard Reservoir and the Great Salt Lake. The trail crosses below Willard Peak and then runs across the top of the ridge between Willard and Ben Lomond peaks. It is fairly level until the last small climb to Ben Lomond.
