CLYDE LAKE LOOP TRAIL- HIGH UINTAS August 2004 - 36 photos
On August 7th of 2004, my grand daughter, brother in law and I, hiked the Clyde Lake loop trail in the Uintas. We parked at the lot between Trial Lake and Washington Lake and began hiking the trail to Notch Mountain past Wall Lake, then just below the notch we took the fork to Clyde Lake. After passing the Twin Lakes we left the trail and climbed the ridge to the northwest looking for John lake, Booker Lake and the Three Divide Lakes. Looking at the map I saw that these lakes were close by, but over a ridge out of sight. (See map by clicking on map URL below). It was a bit of a climb up to John Lake. More than it looked on the map anyway. We ate lunch by John Lake on a ridge above Clyde Lake . After checking out the Three Divide Lakes we returned to the trail at the west end of Clyde Lake and followed it down to the road just west of the parking lot passing six more lakes along the way. At that point we walked over to look at Crystal Lake, another lake on the map that we wouldn't have known about without it. Many of these lakes are only a few hundred feet from the trail, but hidden by trees or ridges. Back at the parking lot we also walked over to look at Washington Lake, which none of us had seen before.
Clyde Lake and Mount Watson
We walked passed 25 lakes on this hike in about 6˝ miles. We started out at 10,000 feet and climbed about 750 feet higher. It was a nice day, almost cloudless and not too hot. It is a hike well worth the time, but I recomend using a map as some of the lakes are hard to find and the trail is not well defined after leaving the Notch trail.
As for wildlife, we saw some backpacking campers, lots of squirrles and a few birds. Oh, and one really big moose.
